CITY APPOINTS ACTING TAX COLLECTOR

(5/14/2009) NEW HAVEN- Following the announcement of the retirement of C.J. Cuticello, who served in the position of Tax Collector for the City for nine years, the City has appointed an individual to assume this role in an acting capacity. Beginning, Monday, May 18, Maureen Villani will work in the position of Acting Tax Collector for the City of New Haven.

Villani has over 20 years of Asset Management experience in collections, workout negotiations and marketing residential and commercial real estate. She has in-depth expertise in managing the municipal real estate collection process and has worked closely with the Tax Office for the past four years while being involved in the collection activities it has undertaken.

Villani is a former Vice President of First Federal Bank where she managed the daily operation of the Collection Department by overseeing collections on approximately 15,000 mortgages. She then joined JER Revenue Service where she had overall responsibility for a staff of Collectors, Asset Resolution Managers and staff on portfolios of tax liens. Villani has significant experience developing and implementing Tax Lien Servicing and Collection programs for cities and counties nationwide.

Most recently, Villani worked as Project Coordinator in the Tax Office focusing on establishing and monitoring payment plans for City residents experiencing delinquencies. Villani will continue the innovative tax collection programs that have led to New Haven achieving among the highest tax collection rates in the State.

When Villani’s term begins as Acting Tax Collector on Monday, she will be compensated with a salary of $80,301. Cuticello most recently earned a salary of $88,620 as Tax Collector.
